Holy Trinity Cathedral

Trinity Cathedral is the resting place of the late emperor Haile Selassie. Statues line the church’s walls and fill the surrounding gardens.

If you are lucky, you may even experience a mass held on its steps. Plan for an hour or more to appreciate its beauty.

National Museum of Ethiopia

This Museum has a wide variety of exhibits on three floors, telling stories from pre-historic, ancient to modern times.

Of particular interest is the "Lucy" skeleton, which was excavated in 1974 and named after the Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is said to be 3.2 million years old.

Merkato

Merkato is one of the largest open-air markets in Africa and definitely worth a visit.

You can buy anything here from high-end electronics to traditional clothes and at the same time experience the unforgettable. Give yourself plenty of time, as there is plenty to see.

The Lion of Judah

The Lion of Judah is the personal symbol of Emperor Haile Selassie I. This monument was one of several unveiled for the Emperor’s coronation in 1930 in Addis Ababa.

The Lion of Judea, despite weighing several tons, was shipped to Rome and erected next to the large white Vittorio Emanuelle Monument in time for the 4th anniversary of the declaration of the New (Fascist) Italian Empire.
